DENAIRE is an international motion picture production company helmed by writer/director/producer Claire McCarthy & cinematographer/director/producer Denson Baker ACS NZCS.

 

Between them they have more than two decades of high-end international feature films, television, commercials, music video and documentary experience.  

Focusing on big screen stories with strong audience and international appeal, the company objective is crucial -  being globally focused, constantly innovating, joining forces with experienced collaborators such as senior producers of like mind and forming sustainable co-production partnerships.

Before forming DENAIRE, Claire & Denson produced narrative drama, music videos and commercials together and independently  including international award winners and Australian Top 10 hits.

 

Favoring the epic, the emotional, the atmospheric and the cinematic, DENAIRE currently has several feature films, limited series and short form projects on their slate at various stages of development and production.  

Their most recent production is THE COLOUR ROOM, starring Phoebe Dynevor, Matthew Goode, David Morrissey and Kerry Fox. It is a SKY Cinema release produced by Caspian Films in association with Denaire Motion Picture Poetry.

THE COLOUR ROOM follows the journey of a determined, working class woman, Clarice Cliff, as she breaks the glass ceiling and revolutionises the workplace in the 20th century. Clarice Cliff (Phoebe Dynevor) is a vivacious young factory worker in the industrial British midlands of the 1920s - Bursting at the seams with ideas for colours and shapes, Clarice takes more and more dangerous risks - but she manages to stay one step ahead of the workhouse and impress the eccentric factory owner Colley Shorter (Matthew Goode) on the way with her talent and innovation.

Writer, director, executive producer and visual artist, Claire's most recent work includes THE COLOUR ROOM with Phoebe Dynevor & Matthew Goode. Claire was the set-up director and EP for the SKY TV series DOMINA, starring Kasia Smutniak, Claire Forlani and Isabella Rossellini.

 

She was director and executive producer on the 6 part television series THE LUMINARIES. An adaptation of the Man Booker Prize winning novel, starring Eva Green and Eve Hewson. Produced by Working Title and BBC2.

Prior to this Claire directed the feature film OPHELIA starring Naomi Watts, Daisy Ridley, Clive Owen and George MacKay. The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival.

Claire adapted for the screen and directed the centrepiece segment of Tim Winton’s celebrated novel THE TURNING, starring Rose Byrne and Miranda Otto. Her segment won Rose Byrne a Best Actress Award at the Australian Academy Awards (AACTA). 

Her award-winning feature film, THE WAITING CITY, starring Radha Mitchell and Joel Edgerton, premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2010. The film was nominated for three Film Critics Circle Awards, an Australian Directors Guild award, won Independent Film Awards for cinematography and editing, and has sold to almost 40 territories around the world. 

Claire was featured in Variety as one the 

"10 Directors to Watch”.

Denson is an award winning cinematographer of international feature films, music videos, documentaries and commercials.

 

His recent credits include, THE COLOUR ROOM which he was also an associate producer. The ITV police detective crime drama GRACE, the Ancient Rome series DOMINA for SKY TV, feature film OPHELIA starring Daisy Ridley & Naomi Watts, MEASURE OF A MAN with Donald Sutherland, Judy Greer and Luke Wilson, directed by long time collaborator Jim Loach, the Working Title/BBC2 series THE LUMINARIES with Eva Green and Eve Hewson and UK TV series VICTORIA series II.

 

Denson was the DP for the reshoots on Jordan Peele's Academy Award winning film GET OUT which included the tone setting opening scene.

 

He has shot feature films and documentaries that have won awards and screened in most major international film festivals including Sundance, Cannes, Toronto, Venice, Tribeca, Clermont-Ferrand, Berlin, LA, among others.

Denson is an ICG IASTE Local 600 member, In 2005 he was accredited by the Australian Cinematographers Society allowing him the honor of having the letters ACS after his name. In 2015 he was accredited by the New Zealand Cinematographers Society adding the honour of the letters NZCS.

 

He has worked in many parts of the world including New Zealand, The Czech Republic, India, Italy, Germany, South Korea, The Pacific Islands, Argentina, Africa, Australia, the United States and the United Kingdom.
